Hello Rainy Season....Diving and Surfing.....So many ways to enjoy the water and become a Pro!With the start of the rainy season here in Costa Rica, +Oceans Unlimited & Go Pro Costa Rica are ready with some great training opportunities. For some of us, we breathe a sigh of relief that the rains have started, for others, it’s a sigh of disappointment. As the ever optimist I like to think of it as a good thing. The rainforest that we live in is green and lush and the quite frankly, considering that we work underwater we are going to get wet anyway. Saying that the rains aren’t going to really kick in until September time. The majority of days there is rain but it is just a shower in the afternoon, or maybe during the evening. Occasionally there is rain all day but its just an excuse to watch Netflix ; )
So, why so good? At this time of year the visibility can drop a bit, as there are more winds, sometimes more surge and this can effect the diving. From a positive point of view it makes you an awesome navigator, and practicing control of students in trickier conditions will have you ready for anything. That is the advantage of training in more difficult conditions.
Another big advantage is that although we have surfing all year here, it just gets better now. With 3 breaks in the local area, as in walking distance, we have plenty of opportunities to have fun above and below the waves. If you are just starting out, all of our Go Pro interns get a free surf lesson with one of our awesome local surf instructors. If you already know the basics then you can turn that into a coaching session. For fun I thought we could add something even more fun to the August IDC and offer 4 free surf coaching sessions. It’s kinda like a mini surf camp so, become a scuba instructor, and work on your surfing! Ta Da! All good I think. Maybe I can jump on a start practicing too!
