Some of you are already aware that the midwest has been hammered with flooding due to recent weather. This is similar to the weather pattern from Spring 2007 that caused our lakes to never reach "turning" temperatures.


Table Rock Lake has been massively hit by the weather and flooding. In fact, several of the swimming areas, marinas, and even the Dewey Short Visitor’s Center have been significantly altered due to flooding. As of late Friday, the flood gates were moving 27,000 square feet of water per second and the lake was not expected to crest until sometime Saturday or Sunday.


As of this weekend (the weekend of the DUI dry suit test dive event) the flooding still had not shown any signs of improvements. SNagel from scubaboard attended the non-dive event and took some photos to share. It will be interesting to see what clean-up efforts will be made by local divers to assist in restoring our local fun-spots to diveable condition.


For those of you familiar with the dam area and Moonshine Beach, Moonshine is totally submerged to include the manmade point, the spillway, the swimming beach, and part of the boat parking lot. As for Dewey Short, the water is in the parking lot, the wood steps used to get to the easy-entry area are destroyed, and the water is just a mere 10-20 feet from the top of the dam. State Park Marina has their parking lot submerged along with part of their entry road. Not to mention the damage to Taneycomo because of the flood gates being open.
