Last week, (3) groups headed out to do some dives off the reefs in Palm Beach. Group one was a PADI group, group two was from the local YMCA and the third group was from NAUI.
As the groups reached their dive destination, the Captain of the boat shouted from the bridge he was having some major problems and it looked as if they were going to have to "ABANDON SHIP!"
As the crew prepared for the emergency, the Instructors from the various Dive Organizations rallied their students into huddles to give some last minute advice and instruction.
The Instructor for the YMCA group told her students, "I’m just a volunteer, so grab your shit and jump for it, we’re all going to die!"
The Instructor for the NAUI group said, "okay students, you’ve been trained for this, we’re (4) clicks from shore, inflate your BC’s, mark a heading due West and try and ride the currents as much as possible to conserve your strength."
Amidst all the chaos, the Instructor for the PADI group calmly told his students to "gear up. We’re going diving. Oh, don’t forget, when the ship goes down, you’ll owe me for a Wreck and Rescue Dive."
