Just returned from Cozumel. Myself, Tamster also of divebuddy.com and my wife Patty went to the island for some great diving ! The water temp was 82 degrees at depth with 150+ visibility calm seas, you cant get any better then that ! We saw alot of marine life, stayed at the Barracuda Hotel in San Miguel right on the water. The dive operator Dive Paradise picked us up each trip right at hotel. The hotel, rather modest, was clean, had its own restaraunt, good staff and swimming pool with bar was located on the water. There was a grocery store across the street from hotel and probably approx 50 restaraunts within walking distance. Due to the better airfares we flew into Cancune, taking a bus for 9 dollars from front of airport terminal to Playa De Carmen , where we caught a ferry to the island for another 11 dollars. We found the local people to be very friendly, the town we felt safe walking around. Already planning another trip back with two other committed divers and 2 others interested already ! If you should stay at the Barracuda I would recommend trying to get 1st or 2nd floors as there are no elevators and is easier carrying yoru gear after all day diving. Marine life was abundant with may turtles, fish, would recommend diving the Palancar Caves and for a shallow dive Coulmbia Shallows...
