My wife is taking her staff for a camping trip this weekend at Garner State Park. Of course the first thing I asked was whether there was a good spot to dive there. It looks like there is indeed a divable spot or two, so I’m off to fill my tanks. If you just happen to be in the Texas Hill country and just happen to have your dive gear in the car drop by and we’ll get wet (like anyone I know really needs an invitation).

chazrich - 5/11/2010 11:45 AM We didn’t get to spend as much time at Garner as we wanted to, so we’ll probably return some time this summer and dive the other end of the park. There are some nice hiking trails there and caves above and below water. I’d recommend this trip if you are looking for some leisurely diving and other exploration.

chazrich - 5/11/2010 11:45 AM My wife and I actually only got in one dive at Garner Sp, and for that we just entered the river behind the campground. Directly below the camp is a short rapid with a shallow pool just after it where one can slip into the water. About fifty yards down it opens up into a wider pool ranging from ten to fifteen feet deep and running downstream for a half mile or so. I’m told the diving is much deeper down by the dam, but we didn’t make it over there. Overall the diving was good; visibility was between 30 and 50 feet, depending on how many people were splashing around on top, and the current is light enough to swim back up river in most places. There were a few large bass and one of our group managed to spear a catfish nearly as long as my leg.
