It was a great day on the ocean today. We left Windswept Marina in East Moriches this morning at 7:30 for a quick trip out to Moriches Offshore Reef. With a slight breeze and 1 foot rollers out on the water it was a little over 20 minutes until we where on site at the APC’s. With air and water temp’s warming up nicely it was time to shed the drysuit and get wet. The initial chill of the water rushing into my wetsuit and up my back took my breath away, but after a second or two I was ready. After...
2011 Dive Season 2011 Dive Season
TColJeep - 4/02/2011 10:18 PM
The 2011 dive season in the Northeast is here. Air temp’s are about 10 degrees below normal and the water is barely warm enough to keep the ice from returning but we are ready. This season we decided it was time to take the next step. Over the winter we purchased a 1999 26’ Seaswirl Striper. Radar, side scan sonar, GPS and a Proton Magnatometer have been installed, the cleaning is done, motor’s tuned up and the gas tanks full. Today we went in the water and tomorrow I’m installing the ’Roll-Cont...
The Jug
TColJeep - 8/15/2010 8:54 PM
Did two nice dives on the John C Fitzpatrick today. This previously unidentified wreck has been known as the Jug for years. Located about 18 miles southeast of Long Island’s Shinnecock Inlet she rests at 130’. Temperature on the wreck was 50 and with vis about 15 ft. The wreck is pretty broken up, lays low in the sand with very little relief and has a fishing net and gear hung up on it. Todays dives produced a couple of lobster, around 2 lbs, along with some crabs and scallops. Thanks to Capt. R...

Saturday morning tease
TColJeep - 10/10/2009 11:03 AM
Stayed up late Friday night putting my gear together and making a few adjustments to my equipment. My drysuit seemed to also have a small seepage in the neck so I checked it out and found a pinhole in the back of the seal. Since i was meeting the boat in about 5 hours a quick fix with some neoprene cement would have to do. After catching a few hours sleep it was time to head down to the docks to meet our dive boat. At 66 degrees it was a warm morning for October and the clouds where breaking, pr...
