Visibility: Generally, given the location, I would guess the viz is probably very good; It was over 100+ the day I was there.
Current: Given its proximity to Cape Lookout Shoals and the Gulf Stream, I would suspect current can be a problem on this wreck. None-to-slight the day I was there.

Fish/Animal Life: The
Yancey has yet to attract the abundant fish life which is characteristic of other NC wreck sites. It is improving though.
Description: At 160+ feet and the deepest of the artificial reef wrecks, the
Yancey is not marked with a buoy. It is still completely intact and is laying on its starboard side. This wreck is very large and quite an impressive site in clear water. Except for the effects of depth, the site presents no problems for navigation. It can be dived at several different levels with the sand being at 165+ (deeper at washouts) and the top of port side (the highest part of the ship) around 110-120 ft. There are many potential points of penetraton into the wreck, but given the depth, these should be taken with the utmost caution and preparation, if at all. There are also several piles of concrete pipe located near the wreck site. These were added in 1991 (330 pieces) and 1993 (500 pieces).
