Dive Site Information

Caution: We do not recommend going past the rock wall of the scenic lookout parking lot. Water conditions change depending on the wave season, the swell, tide, and especially the particular set of waves that change from minute to minute, and people have been swept away from the rocky coast and drowned. Also the area is very hard and sharp, with areas covered by treacherously slippery gravel, a dangerous combination. Also turning your back to the ocean (especially while standing on ground that is not absolutely dry) to pose for a photograph is unsafe.

Address:
Kalaniana’ole Hwy between HanaumaBay and Halona Blowhole and "From Here to Eternity" cove.

Directions:
From Waikiki or Honolulu, take H1 East until it ends and turns into Kalaniana’ole Hwy. Continue straight, and stay to the right lane, passing through the end of Hawai’i Kai. Continue uphill past the entrance to HanaumaBay. As the road curves downward you will see Koko Crater directly in front of you. As the road curves toward the right, enter the first parking lot marked by a "Scenic Point" sign (see photo).

Notes: On a clear day, you can see the islands of Moloka’i and Lana’i on the horizon hence the name of this lookout. In the winter season from mid December through early April, look to the ocean for the spouts of humpback whales visiting from Alaska.

Awesome map by Seth Bareiss! We dove this site Jan 31, 2010. Despite the 3’ swell coming in, it wasn’t that hard to get out past the white wash to drop down. Visibility was 100’ + but we couldn’t find the tunnels near the J exit. Huge schools of Moorish Idols, Spiny Porcupine fish, turtles, and even an octopus to see. Hardest part was hiking back up the cliff after each dive. Well worth the trip though.
