South Holston Lake is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located in Bristol, TN. This dive site has an average rating of 3.50 out of 5 from 6 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 121-130ft/37-40m. The average visibility is 16-20ft/5-6m.
The construction of South Holston Dam was started on February 16, 1942 and was completed November 20, 1950. The total cost of construction of the reservoir was $31,242,224 taking more than 7,842,134 man hours to complete. The dam itself contains 97,500 cubic yards of concrete. South Holston Dam and Reservoir was constructed for the purpose of electric power, flood control, navigation, recreation, an adequate supply of water and other related benefits.
The dam goes down in steps. There is a plaque on the second underwater ledge. This marker is in honor / memory of the first person to recreationally dive at the dam. It is 14" x 8" x 3" concrete slab with a bronze plaque atop it. It is located in approximately 50 ft of water on the second underwater level of South Holston Dam.

Approximately 7.5 miles to 394/11E junction, to 421 junction, right on 421 South at light. Go approximately 2 miles turn right on Emmit TVA Road to Holston View Dam Road.
