Inks Lake State Park is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at 3630 Park Road 4 West, Burnet, TX 78611. The maximum depth is 51-60ft/16-18m. The average visibility is 5-10ft/2-3m.

Formed as a reservoir in 1938, Inks Lake is part of a bigger state park by the same name, which consists of 1,201 acres (480 hectares) along the Colorado River in Burnet County. The park, about an hour’s drive northwest of Austin, is a panorama of cedar and oak woodlands, wildflowers, and pink granite outcroppings in the Central Texas Hill Country. The same geological allure above water extends to below the surface where rock formations provide the main attraction for divers. The water remains at a constant level year-round. Divers should bring their own air.

Aquatic life: Guadalupe, large mouth, striped and white bass; channel and flathead catfish; plus crappie, shad and bluegill.

I went scuba diving here on 7/6/2019. Average viz: Under 5ft/2m. Water temp: 71-75°F/22-24°C.
Shallow depth, very bad visibility.

I dove Devil’s Waterhole on 7/4/2019. Water temp 83°F, vis was under 2’. Most of the time vis was less than a foot. We lost a mask somewhere in there and spent over an hour hunting for it, to no avail. Given the small area, it speaks to the complete lack of visibility in the area. The bottom is mud and the area is high traffic with swimmers and cliff jumpers. Even hitting it first thing in the morning, before all the visitors, and after a night for it to settle didn’t help. I can’t speak to other areas in the lake, but Devil’s Waterhole was a bust for us.
