York Haven Dam - York Haven PA

Loading...
York Haven Dam is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located in York Haven, PA. The maximum depth is 16-20ft/5-6m. The average visibility is under 5ft/2m.

Depth to 18 feet, maybe more if you hunt around a bit. Visibility is a foot or so, very dark, which makes seeing anything unlikely or lucky. Being within 100 feet of the dam is illegal. You must be careful to be behind the low head portion of the dam, and not in the race channel to the hydro plant, or current can become unmanageable. This most likely is not a dive that is worth the trouble to most folks, unless you enjoy dark and claustrophobic conditions. A boat is advised, and surface support.

This site is nearly impossible without a boat. Stay at least 100 feet from the dam.....I’ve been thrown off of the damn while kayaking in the area. I did my dive with a friend off of this dam after swimming the race area to get to it (not an easy swim, don’t attempt). We had to park illegally along some railroad tracks also. The visibility was a foot to two feet at best. Hug the bottom, because if you drift off of it more that a few feet you can’t see a thing, little vertigo because of the possible current that you know is there if you drift too far from the dam itself. Really not worth it, but if you want a challenge (as I usually do) this is a nice one.
