Went this morning about 0800. Virtually no surf, water temp 81 (perfect for a skin), slight current E-W, vis when not in the algae bloom was 20’, in the bloom maybe 5-10’ varying. Some growth on the platters. Lots of different fish schools continuously swimming around. One nice size trigger fish, one ray, small flounder, sand shark and variety of small to medium fish on the platters. Max depth 17’ ON THE BOTTOM! MUCH BETTER than the Pensacola reef (also many more platters and easier to get to the entry point along with showers & restrooms when finished. Would not be fun getting in and out if much surf.

From the closet middle platter to the pole nearest the boardwalk it is 340 degrees. Do the math for going out.

It is in fact about 50 yards to the east of the boardwalk

I went scuba diving here on 7/30/2022. Average viz: 11-15ft/3-5m. Water temp: Over 85°F/29°C.
Long swim in the surf to get out to the dive site. Snotgrass everywhere. Rented gear was heavily beat up, regs tuned so high they free flowed easily, bcd kept auto-inflating. Not much viz once we actually got below the surface and we were getting rocked by the wave action overhead. Hung out for 20 mins until we thumbed it. Some triggerfish and tiny reef fish.

I went scuba diving here on 9/23/2018.
Lots of wildlife on the trees. Coralline algae, trigger fish, spade fish, blennies, damsel fish, tangs, sheepshead, octopuses (octopi), and other assorted fish, plenty of soft corals, barnacles, clams, and sand dollars.
Visibility was 15-30ft
Make sure to bring a dive flag
There isn’t one in place.

I went scuba diving here on 3/25/2017. Average viz: 11-15ft/3-5m. Water temp: 66-70°F/19-21°C.
Testing out some new camera gear shooting blennies which were plentiful. Saw two octopus around the new streaming camera station, water still murky but fun dive anyway.

Saw 3 turtles and tons of fish. This came after a not-so-great snorkel outing in Portofino (lost mask and snorkle on beach after), and after aborted dive on sound side.

Lots of divers at the Navarre Reef today. Began the dive by swimming through the blanket of jellies. They were just everywhere and there was no escaping the stings. Beautiful sea turtle having lunch on top of the first reef disc. Amazing colors. Saw a 12" flounder and a bunch of other marine life. Tons and tons of fish.

I went scuba diving here on 2/14/2015. Average viz: 26-30ft/8-9m. Water temp: 56-60°F/13-16°C.
Went out to the Navarre Beach Reef this time. Water was calm and clear. Not much life in the water, but a nice, relaxing dive. Saw a few fish, some "slugs", many sandollars, a dead ray and urchins. Went a little ways beyond the reefs. Water never seems to get deeper than 15’. Can’t wait to go out here in the summer, when the water is full of life.

I went scuba diving here on 1/31/2015. Average viz: 31-35ft/9-11m. Water temp: 50-55°F/10-13°C.
Went to Navarre Beach reef, but aborted because of high surf. Glad we did. Decided to go try the Marine Sanctuary instead. Water was calm and clear. It was a long walk to the water, but so nice once we got there. Maybe two trips next time. Saw an umbrella on the bottom. Many tiny jellies. Many large white jellies that were either dead or dormant (looked dead to me). Also saw a couple big fish and one beautiful jelly that was definitely alive. Ran out of air before we ran out of enthusiasm. This was a great dive!

Not a very large area. Water was filled with seaweed the day I went which killed the viz. Large schools of Atlantic Bumperfish when I went in July 2014.

Dove 7/7/14, vis 10-20’ further out platters best. Seen 6 different octopuses in platters and support pipes. Lots of fish schooled around now. Slight current west to east, surf little high but manageable. Below 6’ water temp 73 degrees.

Do you go out there often? I recently moved to the Navarre area and have been interested in checking it out sometime, but I’m not keen on diving without a buddy and I’m hoping to find someone to go with someone or a group in the months ahead.

This site during 1-2’ seas is a nice shore dive. Easy access from the parking lot (asphalt, boardwalk and only a few feet of sand to the water if you enter the water to waist deep then head east a short distance before going out). Nice restrooms and outside rinse showers for after the dive are on the boardwalk. The site has much more aquatic life on it than the Pensacola Reef that is similar and installed earlier.
