Cass Lake is a boat accessible fresh water dive site, located in Cass Lake, MN. The maximum depth is 61-70ft/19-21m. The average visibility is 31-35ft/9-11m.
Cass Lake is just south of Bemidji MN. It’s a sand bottom lake and visibility is very good. There are a lot of steep sand drop-offs. Fish include Walleye, Northern Pike and maybe Musky with all the pan fish of a northern MN lake. Crawdads are very plentiful but there are a lot of zebra muscles as well. I dove in Allen’s Bay as it was out of the wind. Water temp in mid Aug was 72 degrees at 30 feet. Thermocline seemed to be at 35-40 feet at that time. I had only planned to dive very shallow as I only had a half tank of air left so I didn’t wear a wet suit. I was very comfortable at 30 feet. Very sorry I didn’t have more air. I dove from our pontoon boat which we launched from the east side of the lake at Norway Beach. Cass Lake is unique as it is home to Star Island which has it’s own lake (Windigo).
