Happy birthday!

John,

Thanks for the welcome, much appreciated. However, the lakes and rivers around here and not really that great for diving. I have tried quite a few of them. Although, I do not mind low vis dives at all, the lakes and rivers here are so low vis, that you can barely see your own computer or gauges. Like you, I prefer to be able to see where I am going and what is around me.

I also enjoy freshwater and ocean diving. Each has it’s own unique adventures to them. Around here, there are a few decent quarries that are good for diving, but I tend to travel down to Florida to do most of my dives. I wish there were a few more good local spots, but I keep looking. Who knows what I will find right? Anyways, thanks again for the comment, and it is nice to meet you. Have fun, and enjoy your dives.

Joshua

Man I wish it was time to go now! I’m ready
I think we are going to do a little more diving around the area as well but I’m not sure just yet were or what we will be diving. A friend has a Condo. down there someplace & is taking about staying there for a day or two. Hope to get it all planed out soon so I can post it on "Dive Buddy’s Calendar"

Sorry, I didn`t get back to you, I`ve been out of the loop with the new job lateley..... do you do any winter diving?
scuba_dude06 - 10/18/2007 2:30 PM
Yes. It is going to be hosted by Rick`s dive and travel center from north little rock. they have a boat down there and they are taking it out to do the contest. It should be pretty fun.

That`s awesome that you met another buddy...I love to hear those stories. I think the Stress and Rescue is like the Rescue Diver certification for PADI. I thought that was more a certification level then a speciality. And boat diving is pretty boring...I didn`t want to add the small ones like that. Under Water Naturalist is another one that didn`t make the list.

Hey there, I have only dove in that lake two times. Last Saturday night i did the two dives. They were night dives, so i didn`t get a great idea of how the conditions are, plus they were from a boat. They were at sites known as Zebra Rock and at Checkerboard. Both sites are somewhat of a drop off with steep embankments covered in moss and boulders dropping quickly to 80+ feet. This vis was about 10 ft at Checkerboard, but only about 3 to 5 ft at Zebra Rock. Again, these were night dives with about 20 divers stirring the water up. In the day time, divers tell me it is nearly as good as Beaver Lake. I am actually going to school in Russellville, AR, so i am located right between Beaver and Oauchita, so the drive is the same for either lake. Maybe we could hit one up some time. Nice hearing from you. Cody

Awesome man! Thanks for the comments. Look me up when you come to TX.

Congrats on the new purchase! Did the dry suit test dives influence the purchase? If so, contact DUI through their website and let them know. I always love the photo ads in scuba magazines for dry suits comparing thickness of log books for a dry suit diver and non-dry diver.

As far as wetsuit diving on the DUI weekend, you would have been perfectly content in a 5mm wetsuit and at least a 3mm hood. It got cool at 60ft in a 5mm farmer john, but it was tolerable.

The only issue is that you need to be sure that you are not diving in water temps below the rating for your regulator. I found out that my Zeagle was only rated for 50ft, thus why I had problems in October as well as this past weekend with it.

I may be heading to Mermett Springs in October to get another DUI event in, but I do not know as of yet. I`m planning to go on a Blackbeard`s Cruise in January, so I may not have the time off of funds to go on another DUI venture this year.

Have you dove in Lake Travis yet?
