Anyone ever use a breakaway spear tip? Do they work well?

Have not used one, but on a solid shaft like the Hawaiin sling when you shoot a fish it can shake off or break the fiberglass shaft if you do not get a kill shoot.

Breakaways work very well. The idea is you won’t bend or break the Pole Spear. Once the fish is on the tip pulls out of and off the Pole.

Breakaway tips are by far my preffered tip. I use a rockpoint breakaway up North and a Tri-cut breakaway in warmer waters / larger game.

unless you are hunting where spear guns are illegal I vote for a gun. At close range it’s hard to miss even if you are a poor shot
