I dive non-decompression profiles to 40ºF in a 7mm farmer John with matching hood/gloves and I’m STILL comfy at the end of a 60 minute dive. ;)
(I think many people drink the kool-aid on dry suits. I do own one but for all the extra maintenance I consider it a special purpose item for extremely cold or long dives)

I’d agree with that! I’m good with a 7mm down to about 52 degrees. Not sure I could do 40! The only thing I don’t like is how it crushes at depth, that’s when I get really cold. But as long as it’s warm at surface I will avoid the expense of a dry suit!

San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico, over New Years. Water temps, 61 degrees F, outside temps, 78 degrees F. Most people in my crew dove dry, I dove in a 7mm with hood and was comfy.
