I started working in the diving industry in Houston at J Rich Sports Ltd in 1979. I opened my own shop in 1986 in West Lake Hills and called it The Great Outdoors. I Moved the shop to Guadalupe st. in 1989 and re-named it The Great Outdoors Aqua Sports. In those years I worked closely with Jim Bowden helping him with equipment configuration for his cave diving expeditions. I Shifted my interests in 1994 after the death of Sheck Exley and began to focus on assisting divers with disabilities. I worked closely with the Eels on Wheels, a club in Austin for adaptive diving. In 2001 I was asked by Tanya Streeter to build an apnea sled for her no-limits world record dive; her husband Paul and I finished it just in time for her to set the record. By this time I was tired of the dive retail world and resumed my work in the adaptive diving arena, I received a grant from the TCDD and worked full time on developing programming for divers with disabilities.
