Larry’s interest in water related activities goes back to Wyandotte Public Swimming pool in south Louisville, Kentucky. He started swimming lessons at six and was lifeguarding from age 16 on. While in graduate school earning a Masters Degree in Education and a Juris Doctor, he taught swimming at the college level and during the summer he ran swimming pools for motels and private clubs. As a flying member (RF-101 and RF-4) of the Kentucky Air National Guard he taught Life Support Courses that included land and water survival. His shop earned the “Best in Air Force” distinction. He retired a Colonel after 31 years of service. When his daughter, Allison, wanted to learn SCUBA the whole family was certified in the late 1980’s in Louisville. He became a PADI instructor in 1989 in the Florida Keys, and eventually worked his way up to PADI Master Instructor. He began teaching DAN O2 in 1991 and was one of the first Instructor Trainers in the nation. He has taught DAN Instructor courses from Cozumel to United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, to Slippery Rock, PA. to Community College of the Keys in Key West over the years. He became a DAN Examiner in 2006 and can now certify DAN Instructor Trainers. He is also an Emergency First Response (EFR) Instructor Trainer. He became a Medic First Aid Instructor in 1990 and is now a Master. Larry has been involved in boating since 1986 and is a licensed Coast Guard Captain. His diving and boating is mainly in the Gulf of Mexico and Florida Keys.
